Rachel Virginia Tusing Burgoyne , 76, a resident of 2010 Muddy Creek Road, Harrisonburg, died Jan. 22, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Burgoyne was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late John and Susan Simmers Tusing.

She was a homemaker and will be remembered from her years of working for Dr. Harold Huffman. She also made many friends while working at Thomas Harrison Middle School. She was a member of the Carl D. Lee VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Harrisonburg Hose Company No. 4 Ladies Auxiliary. Rachel enjoyed working in her flower gardens, visiting with her family and going out to eat with her sisters. She was a longtime member of the Mount Clinton United Methodist Church.

On Feb. 9, 1946, she married Charles E. Burgoyne , who preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1982.

Surviving are four children, Peggy Harbin and her husband, Carl, Eddie Burgoyne and his wife, Harriet, Charles E. (C.E.) Burgoyne Jr. and wife, Phyllis, and Betty June (B.J.) Stover and her husband, Doug, all of Harrisonburg; three loving sisters, Ruth Nutter, Harrisonburg, Jane Brown, Singers Glen and Cupie Shifflett, Harrisonburg; seven much loved grandchildren, Angie Sanger, Andrea Conley, J.J. Burgoyne , Stormi Kelley, Tracey Dean, Eric Burgoyne , and Mike Stover; 15 great-grandchildren, who were her special angels, Luke Sanger, Brandy Caruthers, Amelia Conley, Amy Conley, Brooke Kelley, Alyssa Kelley, Justin Dean, Heather Dean, Kayla Dean, Katlyn Dove, Josh Burgoyne , Dillion Burgoyne , Samantha Burgoyne , Riley Burgoyne and Cole Stover.

Mrs. Burgoyne was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson (Red) Miller and Paul Tusing and two sisters, Sally Snell and Edna Ritchie.

Pastor Ken DeWitt, Pastor Ken Dolan and the Rev. Roy Hedrick will conduct a funeral service Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Mount Clinton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg. Friends may also call at the home of Peggy and Carl Harbin, 2026 Muddy Creek Road, Harrisonburg, at any time.
