From the Marion County, Iowa, Genealogical Society, published in 1976: JEFFERS - The Jeffers became a part of the history of Indiana Township when they came to this area in the 1850's. They had been born in slavery, migrated to the North, and became land owners in the vicinity of Indiana Chapel where they were baptized and became member of the church and many are buried in the churchyard cemetery. They have been remembered by the older residents in the community as very fine people. The older ones died and are buried here and the younger ones have moved on.
