Alexander L. "A.L." Garrison Jr., 85, widower of Margaret Elizabeth (Mitts) Garrison of Knightly Mill Road, Fort Defiance, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Garrison was born on June 30, 1925, in Browns Cove, Virginia, a son of the late Alexander L. Sr. and Florence (Miller) Garrison.

Mr. Garrison was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Middle River Church of the Brethren and retired from DuPont in 1987 where he worked for 35 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and "hanging out at his home".

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Garrison was preceded in death by his two brothers, Rae Garrison and Hubert Garrison.

Mr. Garrison was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel Lee "Danny" Garrison of Fort Defiance and David Michael "Mike" Garrison and his wife, Pat, of Staunton; a nephew and a number of nieces.

A funeral service was conducted Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Middle River Church of the Brethren by ministers Emerson Fike and David Ball.

The family received friends Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery Fund, 2077 Knightly Mill Road, Fort Defiance, VA 24437 or New Hope Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 3, New Hope, VA 24469.
