Daughter of (John) Clayton and Elizabeth Cleaver Kille. Her first marriage was to Enoch Shreve, March 3, 1841 in East Goshen, Ohio. They had 4 children: Eli, Esther, Binford and Mary Anna. Her second marriage was to James H. Chambers, April 3, 1867 in Alliance, Ohio. Mr. Chambers had 5 children from his first marriage: Lorena, Benjamin, John, James and Valentine.
At the age of 20 Elizabeth was a schoolteacher in the Beech Ridge District School; about that year she started writing poetry, based on family events. In 1919 her son, Binford privately published a book titled Poems of Elizabeth Shreve-Chambers, Sketches of Her Life and Reminiscences.
