1st husband: John Quincy Smith (1812-1850) Born Pennsylvania; Died on the Oregon Trail 1850.

2nd Husband: Alexander Postlewaite Ankeny (1823-1891). Charity Smith married Alexander P Ankeny on 8 April 1951 in Lafayette, Yamhill County, Oregon Territory. In 1851 Alexander adopted Charity's son Levi Smith whose father John Quincy Smith died while crossing the plains in 1850 as the family made the journey via wagon train to Oregon.
