Death Takes Reedsporter
Wallace G. Benson, 57, ex-city attorney at Reedsport and son of the late Frank W. Benson, ex-governor of Oregon, died Friday in the Veterans' hospital at Portland.
He was born Sepetmber 5, 1891, at Roseburg. He was graduated from the University of Oregon in 1914 and from the University of Oregon law school, then at Portland. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
Mr. Benson served 18 months in France and Germany in World War I as a 1st lieutenant of artillery. He was a charter member and past commander of the Reedsport post, American Legion.
Health Halts Work
He practiced law in Reedsport beginning in 1920, and was city attorney from 1922 until his resignation because of ill health in 1948.
Surviving are the widow, Alice Royer Benson, Reedsport; a daughter, Harriet Benson, Portland; his mother, Mrs. F. W. Benson, Salem, and a brother, Cliff S. Benson, Oakland Cal.
Funeral services will be under auspices of the American Legion in the Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee chapel at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary cemetery. (The Oregonian, 09 Jan 1949)
