May Winkelman was named after her parents' wonderful neighbor in Montreal, Mrs. Darling. She became a nun early in life but left at her parents' request. She met her husband in California. She was an artist who created many special pieces of pottery adorned with her artwork. One such piece depicted a Biblical scene. When her sister Florence Lewis had a stroke, she traveled across the United States to New York to aid in her rehabilitation. May Winkelman and her family survived the Great Earthquake in San Francisco.
