Staff Sgt Robert J. Collins, 25 was killed in action in France January 28, 1945, when the bomber on which he was serving crashed following take off. Sergeant Collins mother, Mrs. Margaret N. Collins, South Queen Street, Littlestown received letters from the chaplain and the group commander detailing her son's death and telling of the burial rites.
Sergeant Collins was an engineer gunner on the bomber. In a letter from Maj. Gen. Samuel E. Anderson, commander of the division to which the young man was attached wrote describing him as " a splendid airplane engineer and gunner, highly respected by members of his crew and all those who knew him."
