2nd/Lt later 1st/Lt Daily was a recipient of the Distinguished flying cross for his participation in the Ploesti raid "Operation Tidal Wave" August 1st 1943. On that mission he flew as co-pilot for Lt. Denton Crew 42-40751 Y- *TOUCH OF TEXAS 567th Squadron.
B24 TROUBLE with a different crew of the 44th BG was a veteran of "Operation Tidal Wave" the low level mission to destroy Romanian oil fields August 1 1943.
Lt Daily does not appear in MACR #1853 however there is a known grave Ardennes American Cemetery Neupre, Belgium. Lt Daily is listed as KIA Jan 7 1944 with the 566th BS. This is the only 566th crew shot down on that day. He may have been KIA on another crew and that ship returned to Hethel. More research is needed.
