Sgt. Snell was with Company C, 299th Combat Engineers. He was the veteran of many battles in France, Belgium, and Germany, including landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944.
In March 1945 he was working alongside the 9th Armored Division. They had moved to the western shore of the Rhine River.
On March 10, C Company was building a ferry landing, when an artillery shell exploded near them. 5 men of C Company were wounded. Sgt. Daniel W. Snell died of his wounds the next day.
