Thomas Madison Clark was the 7th of 10 children of Jacob Tilton Clark, Sr and Lucy Ann (McFadden) Clark. Along with 2 of his brothers, Andrew Jackson Clark & Chetal Clark, he enlisted in the Union Army, Company C of the 7th Cavalry Regiment of Lee County, Illinois on Sept 4, 1861. All 3 of the brothers re-enlisted on March 30, 1864. Chet would be killed in action Aug 21, 1864 in the Battle of Memphis. Thomas & Andrew survived & were mustered out as corporals on Nov 4, 1865. Thomas married Melinda Matilda Heatherington on July 4, 1873, in Toronto, Canada. They would have at least 4 children, all daughters: Lillian Frances; Catherine "Carrie"; Bertha Maude; and Mabel Heatherington; Thomas entered the Washington Veterans Home in 1916 and died there 8/22/1918. His widow Melinda would live another 24+ years. She died in King Co, WA on June 7, 1943 at the age of 86.
