John A. Murrell was the son of William and Willie Ann (Cato) Murrell. William was the son of William Murrell who died 1826 in Brunswick County, Virginia. John A. Murrell and wife Margaret Stark were the parents of 13 children, all born in what is today Laclede County, Missouri. He and Margaret are buried in the old Murrell Cemetery in northeast Laclede County.
