VERNON GUTHRIE DIES IN ST. JOSEPH
Braddyville (Special) - Vernon Guthrie, 40 passed away Saturday morning, April 9, at the St. Joseph hospital after less than a week's illness which he suffered from meningitis.
He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Guthrie and grew to manhood on his parents' farm southwest of town, later farming this farm for several years. Since leaving the farm he has been engaged in the grocery business,having had a store in Braddyville for the past year.
His father preceded him in death in November, 1937, and he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Perry Guthrie, of Hopkins; one son, Kenneth, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Roy Gillespie of Braddyville,Mrs. Jim Higgins of Shenandoah, and three brothers, Lee Guthrie and Alpha Guthrie of Hopkins,and Clymon Guthrie of Greeley, Colorado.
Mrs. Guthrie has been ill with the flu for two weeks and was unable to accompany her husband to the hospital but made the trip Friday afternoon, but was unable to remain over night. Her condition on Saturday was as good as could be expected.
Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church, Rev. C. W. Proctor being in charge.

Buried in Braddyville Iowa Cemetery near Guthrie homestead in Missouri
VERNON GUTHRIE
Vernon Cecil Guthrie, youngest son of Perry and Ocea Guthrie, was born near Braddyville, Iowa, May 12, 1898, and departed this life at the St. Joseph hospital in St.Joseph, Mo. April 9, 1938, at the age of 39 years, 10 months and 28 days.
He was married to Mabel Luella Moses, April 14, 1920. To this union two sons were born, the first son dying in infancy, and Kenneth Duane at home.
Vernon has lived in and near Braddyville all of his life, with the exception of 1 1/2 years at Garnor,Mo. and 3 years at Clearmont, Mo., where he was engaged in a grocery store before moving his store to his present home in Braddyville, Iowa.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by his wife and son. His father, Perry Guthrie, preceded him in death Nov. 8, 1937.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, and son Kenneth; his mother, Mrs. Ocea Guthrie of Hopkins,Mo; three brothers, Alpha and Lee of Hopkins, Mo., and C.C. Guthrie of Greeley, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Ray Gillespie of Braddyville, Iowa, and Mrs. James Higgins of Shenandoah, Iowa, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Monday afternoon, Rev. C. W. Proctor in charge. Music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Max Garrett,Raymond Osborn, Maynard Burch and Mose Burch, with Mrs. Maynard Burch at the piano. Pallbearers were Irvin Guenther, Herbert Stotts, Delmer Carver, and Guy, Harold and Archie Higgins. Burial was made in the Braddyville cemetery.
