US Congressman. Educated in public schools, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1845 and commenced the practice of law in Elyria, Ohio. In 1850, he relocated to the Territory of Nebraska, was editor of the Omaha Nebraskan and was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving 1855 to 1857. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed legal practice in Elyria, Ohio, until his death.
