John B. Ashe. He was born in Green Hill, New Hanover County, NC. He was a Major General in the Rev. War and active in the Stamp Act. His family graveyard is there but he is buried under an oak on Col. John Sampson's farm near the present town of Clinton.

The Revolutionary War records of this Bureau show that John
Baptiste Ashe entered the service in 1775 or 1776 and served until the close of the War as a Captain, Major and Lieutenant-Colonel of the First North Carolina Regiment.
On February 12, 1839, the soldier's son, Samuel P. Ashe of Haywood County, Tennessee, applied for the bounty land which was due his father, stating that he was "born after the services of his father who died when he was quite young." On February 28, 1839, Warrant 2247, for four hundred and fifty acres of land, was issued to Samuel B. Ashe, as some and sole heir of John B. Ashe, Lieutenant-
Colonel of the North Carolina troops.

State of Tennessee:
At a court held for Fayette County, February 4th, 1839 satisfactory evidence was induced in court, to prove that Samuel P. Ashe, now an inhabitant of the County of Haywood and State aforesaid is the Son and sole heir at law in fee to John Baptiste Ashe late a Major in the first North Carolina Regiment.

HILLSBOROUGH AND IS BURIED HERE.
