Bettie was married to Captain Thomas Green Ryman on February 3, 1869 at Williamson County, Tennessee. Thomas owned a fleet of 35 steamboats and also built the Union Gospel Tabernacle that was renamed after his death, The Ryman Auditorium. It was the first home of the Grand Ole Opry. Mary's parents were Wyatt Woodruff Baugh and Sarah Elizabeth Neely. After the death of her father, her mother married John N. White.
