US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served in the US House of Representatives from Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district for five consecutive terms from April 1947 until January 1957, and from Wisconsin's 9th congressional district for another five consecutive terms from January 1965 until December 1974. Born Glenn Robert Davis to a poor farming family, he earned a law degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1940, passed the bar, and opened a law practice in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He served as a lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II and following the war, he entered politics. After the death of Congressman Robert K. Henry in November 1946, he was elected to replace him. In 1957 he left Congress to run as the Republican candidate for US Senator Joseph McCarthy's seat but lost in the primary. In 1964 he was re-elected from Wisconsin's 9th congressional district but lost the Republican nomination in 1974 to Bob Kasten. After leaving Congress, he worked as a consultant for Potter International until 1983. He died at the age of 73.
