Gary Edward Thompson, 62, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 11, 2010. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward A. (Ed) Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Thompson; mother, Della T. Thompson; children, Gary Thompson II and wife, Anastasia, Jessica T. Baldwin and husband, Jody, Abby Jones, Chris Jones, and Trevor Jones; grandchildren, Abigail Thompson, Alex and Hunter Thompson, and Emma Baldwin; brother, Steven L. Thompson and wife, Lou; uncle, Jack Trent and wife, Lois; and aunts, Ruby Garrett and husband, Kenneth, and Lucy Hill. Services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at New Hope Christian Church. Pastor Pete Eisenberg will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Gary's honor may be made to New Hope Christian Church Small Groups Ministry. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
