Richard E. "Dick" German
Richard E. "Dick" German, 71, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Paris, Ill., died Monday evening, April 5, 2010, in his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born May 30, 1938, in Paris, to Henry and Selma (Cade) German. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. He was a data processing manager at Illinois Cereal Mills, in Paris, for more than 20 years. He married his wife, Mary Nell Abrell-German, on June 9, 1979. He was a devoted husband and father, and a member of Northside Church of Christ. Dick loved spending time with his family, working in his home and garden, and playing golf.
Survivors include his mother, Selma German; his wife; three sons, Rick German and wife Jill of Springfield, Mo., Darren German and wife Kristy of Paris, Walter J. Padgett and wife Melissa of Terre Haute; a daughter, Julie Lambert and her husband Warren of Athens, W.Va., 13 grandchildren, Michelle Garza, Kristi Valdez, Ricky German, Adam German, Ashlie German, Allie German, Annie German, Mandy Posey, Hank German, Blake German, Zach Lambert, Morgan Lambert, and Calen McDonald; three great-grandchildren; a brother, John German and wife Paula of Peoria, Ill.; and a sister, Mary Jane Harmon of Terre Haute; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. EDT at DeBaun Funeral Homes, 85 E. Springhill Drive, in Terre Haute. Funeral services will begin on Friday at 10:30 a.m. EDT, with the Rev. Bob Hawkins officiating. Following services, burial will take place at Beech Cemetery in Coal City, Ind., with military honors. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
