McSpadden Services Set

Funeral services for Herbert T. McSpadden, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chelsea Memorial Methodist Church, with burial in Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of Merriott-Smith Funeral Home of Claremore.

McSpadden, nephew of Will Rogers and father of Clem McSpadden, former U.S. congressman and Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate, died Thursday at a Claremore hospital following a brief Illness.

He managed the Will Rogers Ranch near Claremore for 33 years until he moved back to Claremore to the house where he grew up.

McSpadden was a 1910 graduate of Cherokee Male Seminary in Tahlequah and a World War I veteran, having served with the U.S. Cavalry.

He was a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and the Blue Stem Cattlemen’s Association. He was a charter member of the Milam-Stanley American Legion Post in Chelsea and was a past president of the Cherokee Seminary Association.
