SFC Jack B. Beers, 34, was killed April 7 while serving in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brig., Co. B, 502nd Inf. Sgt. Beers entered service in September, 1951, and was on his second tour of duty in Vietnam. He left for his last tour in December, 1968. He took his basic training at Indian Town Gap, Pa., and attended the Ft. Benning, Ga. jump school. He had served tours of duty in Japan, German, Lebanon and Vietnam. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at Tarpley's Funeral Home. Following the service, the body will be taken to Central Chapel, Ft. Campbell, Ky., whore memorial services will be conducted at 11 o'clock. Burial will follow in Ft. Donelson National Cemetery, Dover. Chaplain Charles Meek, Ft. Allentown Couple Learns Son Is Killed in Vietnam
An Allentown couple was notified yesterday that one of their sons, a career Army sergeant, SGT. JACK BEERS has been killed in Vietnam. Mr. and Mrs. William H. Beers of 115 N Jasper St., said their son, Platoon Sgt. Jack B. Beers, was killed Monday while leading a patrol against enemy forces. He was serving a second tour of duty there. Sgt. Beers, 36, was a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. His widow and three children live in Clarksville, Tenn. Sgt. Beers was an Allentown native, and a graduate of Allen High School. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church of Allentown. A former National Guardsman, Sgt. Beers joined the active Army in 1953 and took his basic training at Ft. Benning, Ga., the training school for paratroopers. During his 16-year career with the Army, he has served overseas in Japan, Germany, Korea, Lebanon and one previous tour in Vietnam. His brother, Sgt. 1. C. William C. Beers, is serving in Vietnam with an artillery unit. He lives in Godwin, N.C. Survivors other than his parents are his widow, Lucretia (Chris) Beers; two daughters, Catherine Irene, 8, and Tracy Lynn, 4; a son, Jack Jr., 6; a brother, Sgt. William in Vietnam, and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ferber of Slatington, and Mrs. Mildred Herzog and Mrs. Kathleen Adams, both of Allentown. Funeral services for the sergeant will be in Clarksville, Tenn.
