William James Holloway was the founder and first president of Salisbury Maryland State Normal School. The school was founded 7/09/1925. He retired 10/05/1934. During his tenure, the school developed from a 2-year normal school to a state teacher's college offering a 4-year curriculum. It later became Salisbury State University. He worked tirelessly to develop the school's curriculum and to enable it to survive the Depression. Holloway Hall on the University campus was named in his honor.
