Phillip enlisted 10 Dec 1941. He was assigned to the 507 Parachute Infantry Regiment and participated in D-Day where his unit's objective was to secure Merderet River crossings in France. Phillip was killed in action 12 June 1944. His body was returned from St. Mere Eglise, France and he was re-interred 17 Nov 1948 at Arlington National Cemetery.
