Rear Admiral John B. Clitz, United States navy, retired, died this morning in the hospital at St. Elizabeth's Asylum where he had been a patient for several years.
The Navy Department has been informed and will take the usual action.
Admiral Clitz came of military stock, his father being a prominent figure in the war of 1812. He entered the navy in 1837, and saw service in the Mexican war, being on the Hecla at the capitulation of Vera Cruz, and at Tuxpan. During the last war he was on the blockade, in the attacks on Fort Fisher, and was specially commended by Admiral Porter. He was born at Sackett's Harbor, N.Y., in 1821, and was retired in 1883, since which time he resided in this city.
