On the night of 22 May 1968,a C130A,Blind Bat 01, with nine USAF personnel aboard departed Ubon,Thailand with other flights on an operational mission,a Blind Bat/FAC/Flare mission, into Laos.Maj.Jerry Chambers was a passenger;a FAC assigned to, and on the flight as an observer. While in the Savannahkhet Province, near the city of Muong Nong, radio contact was lost. After the estimated time of fuel exhaustion, and the plane and crew having not returned to a friendly base, all personnel aboard Blind Bat 01 were declared MIA. The crew of another aircraft stated they had seen a large fire near the last known location of the lost aircraft. S&R was not initiated because of the intense enemy fire. As the years passed.information was gathered from personal interviews, photos, and eye witnesses reports and a crash site found.Promotions were given during their MIA status, until changed to KIA, based upon time in grade.During excavation, enough evidence was found to determine this was the crash site of Blind Bat 01.All identifiable human remains were returned to their NOK.Unidentifiable human remains were buried in a co mingled remains service at ANC on 10 June 2010. LTC Chambers had a wife and one son. His father,Dan,died in 1953 and mother Della,in 1985. Home of record is Muskogee,Ok. Panel 65E-Line 04
