Lloyd was the 5th child of John and and Ida Backes. He met and married Maxine Cochrell on 02 July 1930. When faced with the depression hardships of finding steady employment, he and Maxie returned to Guthrie, Oklahoma and made their home there on the family farm with his mother. It later years when his mother Ida, moved into town, Lloyd took over the management of the farm, and lived there the rest of his life. The family were members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Guthrie.
