David George Hess, 46, of rural Underwood, died on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010.
He was born March 8, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa, one of four children born to George David and Fay Kathryn (Schroeder) Hess. David was baptized and confirmed at St. James Catholic Church. He attended grade school in Battle Lake and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1981.
In 1982 he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Ft. Sill, Okla., during boot camp and also in Georgia as a platoon leader.
On Nov. 21, 1989, he married Carol Jean Boyer in Grand Forks where the couple resided and were co-managers of a motel. When they returned to rural Underwood, David worked for K. & S. Construction and Curtis Construction in framing and building which included area churches. He was also employed with I Am The Guy, working various jobs in the area.
David was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in rural Underwood where he very much enjoyed being an altar server. David was also a member of the Underwood Jaycees where he served as an officer.
His hobbies included watching Nascar Racing, anything to do with Harley Davidson, also loving fishing, swimming and water skiing on Pickerel Lake. He was a voracious reader. Family, including the little children, will miss his gentle nature and loving ways.
His family includes his wife, Carol Jean of Fergus Falls; parents, George and Fay of Pickeral Lake, rural Underwood; a sister, Marie (John) Keefe of Pine City; two brothers, Steve (Kim) of Seattle, Wash., and Paul (Dawn) of Underwood; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. James Catholic Church of rural
Underwood
