Prominent Obion Farmer, 67, Dies After Suffering Stroke

OBION, Tenn., May 11. - Melvin E. Neely, 67, prominent farmer, died at his home here this morning after suffering a stroke of paralysis last night.
He was born at Hornbeak, living there until 18 years ago, when he came here.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Ferrell Neely; three daughters, Estelle and Floretta Neely of Obion, and Ora Lee Neely of Memphis; two sons, Lawrence Neely with the United States Marine Corps on the West Coast, and Novelle Neely of Sikeston; four brothers, Jim Neely of Obion; Marvin Neely, Clayton Neely and Jerman Neely, all of Hornbeak, and four sisters, Mrs. Willard Barnett, Memphis; Mrs. I. A. Ruble, Marvell, Ark., Miss Lilly Oglesby of Deerfield, Florida, and Mrs. Fon Lasater of Tiptonville.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence by the Rev. J. T. Banks of Hornbeak. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

**There is some discrepancy as to Melvin's middle name. His sister Lexie's family bible records it as Melvin Grady Neely. The 1880 census also refers to him as Melvin G. Neely. However, all records after this refer to him as Melvin E. or Melvin Edward.**
