Photo courtesy Marla Fryman (John Calvin Oliver's 2nd great granddaughter), found in George William Young's Bible. OBITUARY Transcription, "Again our community is called to mourn the death of one of her best citizens. On Saturday morning Jan. 5 our friend and neighbor, John C. Oliver died of pneumonia, after an illness of only a few days. His neighbors did not think he was so near death until he was gone. Mr. Oliver was born in Green county, Tenn., Aug 16. 1848 and moved to Georgia with his parents in 1853 where he grew to manhood and moved to Aakansas(sic) in 1870 locating in Izard county. In 1872 he was married to Miss Margarette E Stephenson. Of this union there were two children born. In 1880, Mr. Oliver located in Scott county on Denton Creek. In 1881, his wife died leaving two little girls. In the same year he married Lida Beer and of this union there were eight children, all of whom are still living to mourn tne(sic) loss of a loving father. Mr. Oliver joined the Missionary Baptist church about 18 years ago, in which he has always been a faithful member. His purse was always open to the needy and to those in dis(illegible). He was always working for the up-building of his community and was a consistant(sic) advocate of the public schools of his community and was always interested in the peace and good will of his neighbors. To his bereaved wife and children we can say this separation is not for long. Cheer up and put your trust in Him who is able to take care of the widow and orphan. It seems hard to give him up, but we must bow to the will of God and say Thy will and not our be done. To his aged father be ready for it wont be long until the summons will come for you, and his brothers and sisters and also his friends, this is only a warning that we may be called to our reward whether it be good or evil. Put your trust in Him who says, "Come unto me all that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." M. H. Brown
