Dakota, a German Shepherd, was born in Slovakia July 2002.

He was put into full service by the Vancouver, (WA) Police Department in July 2005.

His handler was Officer Roger Evans.

Tracking k-9 Dakota was slain with a .357 Magnum revolver while tracking with his handler Officer R. Evans. They were trying to capture a suspect.

The "person" who shot Dakota was charged for the killing. Not going to say this murderer's name because this is about Dakota.

A sculpture was made and is located at the Vancouver Police Department's east precinct office in Cascade Park.

The sculptor, a Milwaukee, Oregon artist and owner of Sculptural Stone Design, Mark McLean, donated the sculpture.
