Bess "Maribel" McGinnis, 69, of Gosport, died Friday at Bloomington Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1930, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Jerry Bliss and Edna Gail (Hartsock) Sinclair.

She was a homemaker and was half-owner of Mc Mfg. in Mooresville for many years. She had worked in medical records at the Indiana University and University of Arizona medical centers and at Bloomington Hospital, and had been a real estate agent for Century 21 Realty.

She was a member of Gosport Baptist Church, Ivanho Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Fortnightly Club, Harrison Homemakers, and was a former member of the Gosport Town Board.

She was also a volunteer at various nursing homes in the area, reporting on books she had read to the nursing home residents. She was named Gosport Senior Citizen of the Year in 1998.

Survivors include her husband, Glen McGinnis; one son, Mark McGinnis of Tempe, Ariz.; two daughters, Carol Ann Arner of Montpelier, Vt., and Pat Wright of Plainfield; one brother, John Edgar Sinclair of Tempe; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, James Michael McGinnis.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Gosport with the Rev. Tim Mohon officiating. Burial will be at the Gosport Cemetery.
