Olin Clay "Mutt" Armstrong Jr., 68, of 1101 Skymont Road, Staunton died Wednesday at King's Daughters' Hospital. He had been ill only a short time.

Mr. Armstrong had been associated with Central Tire Co. for 34 years before retiring in 1983.

He was born May 8,1918, at Staunton and was a son of the late Olin Clay and Mildred Hutcheson Armstrong.

Mr. Armstrong attended Staunton and Augusta County public served in the Navy during War II. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2216, Staunton Moose Lodge 1635 and the Augusta Lions Club.

He was active in the Staunton Volunteer Fire Department 39 years and was assistant fire chief 1960-78.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Hartman Redifer Armstrong; a son, Olin Clay Armstrong III of Rt. 3, Staunton; a daughter, Jacqueline A. Wood of Virginia Beach; a brother, James A. Armstrong of Charottesville; two sisters, Martha A. Ramsey of Lumberton, N.C., and Mildred A. Wright of Staunton; and two granddaughters.

Mr. Armstrong's first wife, Geneva Wine Armstrong, died Nov. 6,1976.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the Hamrick Funeral Home in Staunton by the Rev. William C. Wright Jr. Burial will be in the Sangerville Church of the Brethren
cemetery.
