Elmer Cox of Mears died Saturday morning at 4:15 o'clock of double pneumonia. He had been ill for a week. He was born in Sargents 37 years ago and while yet an infant came to Salida with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cox. He had resided here until a year and a half ago when he and his family removed to their ranch at Mears. His mother died several years ago and his father has been in Oregon for some time. Before his removal to Mears, Mr. Cox was employed by the Gimlett Lumber Co. hauling lumber. He is survived by his wife and four small children, two of whom are quite ill with the flu, also by his father and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Romans(?) of Greeley and Mrs. Mary Yates(?) of California. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Lorton and Wenz chapel. the Rev. E. O. Butler officiating. Selections were sung by the Baptist choir. The pallbearers were M. C. Woods, Paul Nelson(?), Mills Hutchinson, Bailey Hutchinson, F. E. Gimlett and Ross Felton. Interment was in Fairview.

Some of the articles in this newspaper were very faded out & his was one of them. I wasn't sure about a couple of the last names.

His wife & unborn child died a week later. His other children were sent to live with other relatives. My great-grandpa (Gene Cantril) went & helped them while they were sick (Samuel's wife was Gene's sister) & after he had gone home himself, he also got sick & died on March 2, 1920.
