"Doc" practiced at Illinois Masonic Hospital, Chicago, IL. among other places.

He was married at least three times. His first wife, Belle Leitzinger/Leutzingen died after 6 years of marriage (diabetic coma) and she was buried in Edgerton, Wisconsin. His second wife, Frieda Helmold, bore him at least two (probably three) children, and then died in 1926. One child died in infancy, the other seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth, and the third became a nun of the Dominican Order. His last known wife (Pat "Dee Dee" Richmond) also gave him two children, Bonnie & Bobby.

He died a pauper and is buried in a pauper's grave, as a "special charity case", perhaps because he gave of himself to so many people during his lifetime of medical service.
