Son of Richard "Doc" Steffen and Frieda Helmold.

Died at the age of 8 months 27 days and is buried with his paternal grandparents in Wunders Cemetery.

I can't begin to guess what really happened to baby Richard. He was born "Richard Charles Steffen" (like his father), but his death certificate (information being provided by his father Richard Charles Steffen, M.D.) clearly lists his name as "Richard George Steffen". His obituary also lists his name as Richard George Steffen, however his gravestone in Wunders Cemetery in Chicago is clearly marked "Richard C. Steffen". It's hard to say how there could have been any error on Doc Steffen's part, so perhaps sometime after the birth certificate was complete, his name was changed to Richard George...

A strange story told by Aunt Anne (I believe) is that this child was injured in a fall with his mother (who Aunt Anne said might have been drinking). There is no evidence of this other than the heresay of Aunt Anne, who was known to be very informed about things. Clearly the death certificate lists gastro enteritis as the main cause of death.
