New Hampshire Governor. Born In Salisbury, North Carolina, he was Governor of New Hampshire from 1844 to 1846. He was elected to the State House of Representatives in 1829. He was responsible for starting the first power loom in Peterborough, New Hampshire, becoming a prominent cloth manufacturer and mechanic. He started his own cotton mill, Union Manufacturing Company, and served as its superintendent from 1824 to 1845. He was a freemason and died in Peterborough.
