On Saturday morning this community was startled by the shocking intelligence that Mrs. E. O, Beatty had died suddenly of heart disease the preceding night at 10 o'clock. This estimable and popular lady bad been seen in her carriage on the evening of that very day in apparently perfect health, and greeting her friends with that pleasant smile of recognition which was wont to light up her pleasing face. She was ill less than thirty minutes, and her heart ceased to beat in a few moments after a physician reached her bed-side. Evidence of organic heart disease were recognized by her physician about a year ago, but no recent symptoms foretold the sudden end. Mrs. Beatty was the eldest daughter of the late Simeon H. and Amelia (Owsley) Anderson, Garrard county. In 1842 she married the late Gen. J. T. Boyle, and eight sons and four daughters blessed their marriage. Of these twelve children only five are now living. These are St. John Boyle, Esq, of Louisville; Mr. Sam'l G. Boyle, Mr. Boyle Gill Boyle, Mrs. Amelia B Woolfolk, and Miss Roberta Boyle, of this city. After her marriage to General Boyle she lived in Danville until 1862, when she removed to Louisville. Gen, Boyle died of apoplexy July 18, 1871 and in 1874 the family returned to Danville to utilize the superior educational advantages offered here. In 1879 she was married to Dr. Ormond Beatty.
Mrs. Beatty was endowed by nature with an unusual share of personal beauty, with pleasing and attractive manner and superior intellectual power. She possessed a generous and sunny disposition, and was happiest when contributing to the happiness of others. Her life was filled with generous and noble acts of kindness and benevolence. Many a friend in distress has been the recipient of her aid, and the crowning beauty and grace of such action on her part was that no one heard of these deeds from her lips. She was a generous and noble friend. Both her heart and her purse were open to those in distress. Her social accomplishments were of the highest order. In her home she at all times dispensed generous and elegant hospitality. She was an active spirit in all good work. Her contributions to educational purposes, especially Centre College, and her aid in church work, to which she was devoted, were always liberal. Her loss will be keenly felt in her family and through out this community. In her life she passed through many severe afflictions. Among others was the sudden death at different times of three noble sons just arrived at manhood's estate. She had an abiding faith In, and an earnest devotion to, the religion of Jesus Christ, which sustained her in all afflictions and trials. She was spared all the pain and distress of lingering illness, sad after a beautiful spring day, whlch she enjoyed, in the peaceful quiet of her home---
