Liberian Statesman. Known as G. Henry Andrews, he was born in Cape Palmas (also called Harper), Liberia, educated in the United States at the University of Cincinnati and became a newspaper, radio and television sports journalist. From 1973 to 1980 he served as Minister of Information, Tourism and Cultural Affairs. After Liberia's 1980 coup, he moved to the Ivory Coast where he was employed by the African Development Bank. As Election Commissioner, in 1997 he presided over the vote that was supposed to end years of coups and civil war in Liberia, but the misrule of Charles Taylor led to a resumption of the civil war, which did not end until Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was elected in 2005. During his exile in the ivory Coast, Andrews authored 1993's "Cry, Liberia, Cry."
