Died at 46 years, 7 months, 28 days

A master mechanic most of his life, "Charmin' Charlie" died of lobar pneumonia and is buried next to his father Philip James [Keegan] Keene and his sister, Dorothy "Dora" Keene in Montrose Cemetery, Chicago, IL.

Charles died at 46 yrs 7 months 28 days of lobar pneumonia, the day after his daughter's (Aunt Dorothy Frohlich) 12th birthday on November 10, 1942. He was buried on "Friday the 13th", November 13, 1942 in Montrose Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.

In the years prior to his death, he was a teacher at Washburn Trade School in Chicago on Friday nights. 6 of his students ended us being his pallbearers....

Murray "Chip" Julian (nephew to Charles) remembers Uncle Charles & Charles' brother Harry as being "rough and tumble kind of guys" that could get just about anything done. Charles worked for awhile as a welder for Chip's dad, George Julian. Chip also says that he used to really look up to his uncles and tried to be like them... Chip was a welder for 55 years and credits much of his mechanical ability to his blood line...

20 years before his death, in the 1923 Chicago City Directory, Charles P. Keene is listed as an auto mechanic living at 556 Monticello Avenue. This is only doors away from my maternal Gersch great grandparents home located at 618 Monticello Avenue, although there was no connection between the families at that time.

There is currently no headstone for my Grandpa Charles Keene. I sure would like to see our family come together and come up with a fund to get a marker made and installed on grandpa's grave. He is buried in the gravesite that was reserved for his mother, Gertrude Amelia Joy Keene Nash.
