Mary Catherine (HARKINS) NAIL-WILLIS-O'RILEY was born August 12, 1854 in Fort Towson, Towson County, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (later to become Fort Towson, Choctaw County, Oklahoma with Oklahoma statehood on November 16, 1907), the daughter of George Washington HARKINS (born in 1820 in French Camp, Choctaw Nation, Mississippi; died October 23, 1861 in Fort Towson, Towson County, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory) and Salina GARDNER (born in 1825 in Mississippi; died Indian Territory, date unknown).

Catherine married first about 1869 to Edward James "Ed" NAIL Sr (born February 6, 1839; died about May 1, 1874). There were two children born of this marriage: Lorena "Rena" (NAIL) MORGAN (1872-about 1920) and Edward James "Buddy" NAIL, Jr (born 9/28/1874 in Durant, Blue County, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (later to become Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma with Oklahoma statehood on November 16, 1907). Ed was drowned in Blue River, Blue County, Indian Territory when his horse swam out from under him in early 1874.

Catherine was married for a second time to Ephram WILLIS (about 1850 to about 1877). There was one child born of this marriage: Fannie WILLIS (about 1876 to 1879). Ephram was riding in the pasture, looking for some of his cattle that were missing when he rode upon a cattle-thief skinning some of his cattle. When the thief, a Mr. Steatman, saw Mr. Willis, he shot him. This was about 1877.

Catherine third marriage on November 17, 1878 was to John O'RILEY (August 29, 1850 to January 19, 1904) after knowing him for only two weeks. Nine children were born of this marriage: Ada O'RILEY (1879-1880), Cora O'RILEY (1881-1881), Arlee (O'RILEY) REED BOYET (1883-1972), Lester Roy O'RILEY I (1885-1960), Zula (O'RILEY) COOPER (1888-1972), Lula (O'RILEY) AUSTIN (1890-1968), Lela Josephine (O'RILEY) McINERNEY (1892-1986), Ora Catherine O'RILEY (1894-1964), and Zelma O'RILEY (1897-1991).

Catherine was ½ Choctaw Indian. Her father was ½ Choctaw from his mother and Catherine's mother was ½ Choctaw from her father. As a result, Catherine was an original enrollee of the registration of the Five Civilized Tribes by the Dawes Commission. She and her family were registered on September 12, 1903. Their names appear in field #3449 of the Dawes Choctaw Rolls. Her enrollment is listed as #9814.

Following an illness of more than one-year, Catherine died at her home in Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma on August 8, 1934 4 days shy of her 80th birthday.
