Joseph Edward Maloney Sr. left Louisville in the mid-late 1930's too to seek work during the depression and because of the flood of 1937. His wife Elinor Elizabeth Fromang remained in Louisville to care for their newborn child, Joe Jr. It is known that Joe worked in New York, Chicago and St. Louis and, at times, was working in Louisville. The 1937 flood destroyed the house and possessions of Andrew and Lorena and Joe and Elinor, including Joe's car, which was eventually repaired by his Uncle Louis Bender. Joe and Elinor separated March 1, 1938 (his birthday) and Elinor finally filed for divorce on July 16, 1943, granted September 27, 1943. Joe married Amelia Lee "Mele" Coffee on August 25, 1945, in Rossville, GA, just south of Chattanooga, TN. Mele's sister "Pete" had introduced them. At his death, Joe Sr. lived at 3818 Garfield Ave. and was a foreman at Cochran Foil Co. His grave in Cave Hill is a slightly raised gray granite stone. Joe was also married in 1929 to Dorothy Luckert and in 1932 to Virginia Sullivan and lived at 539 Garden.
