Harold W. "Bill" Spurgeon, 63, of Dayton, Tenn., died at his home on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008.
Memorial service was held Saturday at Beck's Grove Methodist Church in Freetown with Carl Stone officiating. Burial was at Houston Cemetery. Coulter Garrison Funeral Home, Inc. of Dayton, Tenn., and Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown, handled arrangements.
Mr. Spurgeon served in the Army 1966-1968 as a paratrooper and was in Vietnam for 18 months. He was a truck driver for Roadway Express.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Tilda "Tia" Beverly Spurgeon; five children, Charles Wilson of Tennessee, Dennis Wilson of North Carolina, Terry Wilson, and Angela Parsons and Douglas Spurgeon of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester "Sonny" Spurgeon and Gene Sutton; three sisters, Betty Moore, Carolyn Wilson and Wilma Ping of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Renus Spurgeon; his mother, Goldie Wayt Spurgeon Sutton; his stepfather, Alvin Sutton; and two sisters, Bonnie Casebier and Iva Piel.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, Tenn.
