Lieutenant Junior Grade Quiel was the pilot of a F9F-5 Pantherjet fighter with Fighter Squadron 153 aboard the USS PRINCETON (CVA-37). On April 25, 1953, as his aircraft was launched it crashed into the ocean and sank. He was listed as Missing in Action.

For his leadership and valor, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 2 Gold Stars, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

He is also identified on the Courts of the Missing in Honolulu, Hawaii and on the Korean War Memorial in Dayton, Ohio.
