Nahum Baldwin was born 30 Jan 1762, East Sudbury, MA, his family moving to NY when he was a child.
A resident of Amherst, NH, he enlisted at age 18,summer 1780,as a Private in Capt. Barrons Co., Col. Moses Nichols Rgt. for 3 months,marched to West Point where they were stationed a few days before being ordered to Robinson's Farm across the Hudson, & was detached on a guard compound to guard cattle until discharged.
Nahum enlisted again summer 1781 at White Plains, NY, as a Private in Capt. Jeremiah Fogg's Co., Col. George Reid's Rgt., and was stationed at Saratoga for 6 months.
At age 70, a resident of New Sharon, assisted by son Wingate Bradley, Nahum recorded in his pension application filed 11 Dec. 1832, that in the autumn before turning 21 he moved to the part of N.Yarmouth, that is now Freeport, Maine, for a few months, and then to Georgetown on the Kennebec River for about 2 yrs. From there he came to the Sandy river & commenced clearing & cultivating a nice farm now in the town of Starks.
