Gandy Winfield Scott of Churubusco died at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne Saturday after undergoing an operation for cancer. He was a native of Preston County, West Virginia, where he was born July 12, 1849, a son of Dr. Owen Gandy.

The father settled in Heller’s Corners, Allen County, in 1852, and brought his children there in 1855. The deceased taught 22 terms and Churubusco and also at Swan and Auburn.

In 1875 he married Ellen Matthews, daughter of Frederick Matthews of Churubusco. In 1876 he commenced the study of law and in 1878 commenced the practice of that profession. His wife died about 20 years ago and he married Emma Donaldson in August 1888.

He was a member of the United Brethren Church and was given license to preach in 1887. In 1901 he was ordained. He served charges at Delta, Ohio, Angola, Ind., Waterloo, Fulton and Washington Center. He retired in 1906. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Commandery at Angola.

He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Clyde M., attorney at Phoenix, Arizona; Harry L, editor of the Gazette at Wasa, S.D.; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dr. J. L. of Humboldt, Neb., Oscar of Churubusco; one sister, Mrs. Melissa C. Rhodes of Plains, Kansas; 4 half-brothers, John M, Freedom L, Charles M of Noble Twp, Bert of Fort Wayne, and one half-sister, Mrs. E. J. Smith of Columbia City. Obsequies were at United Brethren Church Thursday. Burial, Eel River Cemetery. Democrat 1-2-1913
