John Gilbert, age 88, of Stockbridge GA died Sunday, April 17, 2011. He was born in Stockbridge GA to the late John Robert and Mattie Eunice lamb Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Stockbridge and was the owner of Gilbert's Garage until his retirement in 1986. He was a well-respected member o Stockbridge First Baptist Church and a proud decorated WWII Veteran, having served in the 10th Mtn Division. Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife Margaret Gilbert of Stockbridge GA, sons, Bob (Judy) Gilbert, Mike (Sue) Gilbert, Mark (Lynn) Gilbert, stepdaughters Connie Mebane, Gail (Rob) Vaughn, sister Louise (Bill) Miller, sister-in-law, Frances Gilbert, 6 grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Rebekah (Beck) Elliot; brother Louie Gilbert, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Linda Gilbert. Funeral services will be held 11 am on Tues, April 19 at Stockbridge First Baptist church with Rev. Steve Murell and Rev. Reed Benson officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Mon, April 18, 4-8 pm at the funeral home. The family suggests donations in memory of Papa John be made to Stockbridge First Baptist Church, 4566 N. Henry Blvd, Stockbridge GA 30281.
