HAYS -- Gladys E. Beedy, 99, Victoria, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at a Victoria nursing home.
Mrs. Beedy served in the Nurse's Corps during World War I and worked in the John Kellogg Clinic at Battle Creek, Mich., and the Multiplex Clinic in Chicago as a nurse's aide where she was cited for her exceptional abilities. She later taught school in elementary schools in Akron, Colo., Simmons, Agra and Oakley before she retired after 32 years of service.
She was born Jan. 1, 1900, in Phillips County, the daughter of Allen B. and Myrtle Rayburn Dixon. She attended school in Agra. Mrs. Beedy was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Hays, United Methodist Women, Agra Alumni Association where she is named in the Hall of Fame, Delta Kappa Gamma at Hays and she was a life member of the National Education Association.
She married Harry Beedy on Dec. 18, 1924, at Fort Morgan, Colo. He died in 1933.
Mrs. Beedy also was preceded in death by two granddaughters and a great-grandson.
Survivors include Patricia Theis, Topeka, Joan Henry, Hays, and Harriett Bixenman, Grinnell; two brothers, Ted Dixon and John Dixon, both of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Bettie Hubbard, Whittier, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church at Hays.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the West Cedar Cemetery at Agra.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Hays State University Endowment Association and sent in care of the Hays Memorial Chapel.
