Janet C. Block, 92 years old, died June 28, 2007, at her daughter's home in Windsor, Va. She is survived by her beloved twin sister, Jean Bradley, of Chalfont, Pa., the daughters of the late John MacKay and Ida May Cairns. Born and raised in Scranton, Pa., she left to attend the Women's College of North Carolina and then worked as a secretary. Her skills allowed her to follow her adventurous spirit to Knoxville, Tenn., where she worked for TVA and met her late husband, Keith Stackhouse Block Sr., a "smooth" Southerner. The North-South union produced three children, who were raised in Chatham, N.J., and brought up in a home dominated by her fierce family loyalty, strong principles, love of English, thriftiness and gentle spirit - always proper, but a little naive. She became more precious as time went on. In 1977 they retired to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., where they spent 23 glorious years.

Janet was preceded in death by her brother, John MacKay Cairns, in 2005. She is survived by her three children, Keith and wife Rocelia of Greenville, S.C., Barbara Gietl and husband Peter of Windsor, Va., and Kathleen and husband Gerald Ryan of Prairie Village, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.

Harrell and Hill Funeral Home of Suffolk is assisting the family with arrangements.
