SHERANDO-Earl Rexford Carter, 71, died Monday in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Mr. Carter was born in Augusta County on July 1, 1906, a son of the late Albert Marion and Ida Belle Emswiler Carter. He was a member of Sherando United Methodist Church and had been a painter most of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Mary May McCormick Carter; one step-son, Gilbert Boyce of Joppa, Md.; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Mabel Carter on April 13, 1946 and one brother, Floyd Marion Carter on Aug. 28, 1950.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the chapel of the Etter Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John H. McDaniel and the Rev. Ralph W. Hines. Burial will be in the Sherando United Methodist Church.
Active pallbearers will be Ralph C. Crosby, Rexford Haynes, Bobby Dean Carter, Robert S. Martin, James R. Toler and Virgil Daughtery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Siron, Daniel Hines, Mrs. Betty Crosby, Mrs. Betty Carter, Mrs. Delores Toler, Mrs. Jane Siron, Mrs. Jody Martin and Mrs. Joan Davis.
There will be no viewing. The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight.
