WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Travis "Jack" Queen departed this world to be with his Lord on March 9, 2009, while working on his farm.

Jack, 97, was born in Wilkes County on Jan. 15, 1912, to the late Robert and Emily Hicks Queen.

Jack was retired from Atlantic Greyhound Bus Lines after 34 years of service. During his retirement, he worked for Regal Ford Company. He was a member of Round Mountain Baptist Church in Wilkes County and the Gilbert Bowles Memorial Bible Class at Beck's Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Jack was a devoted, loving Christian husband, father and "grand daddy". His days were spent taking care of the needs of neighbors and keeping up his farm. He was known for his stubborn working spirit and never let a day pass by idle.

Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christine Icenhour Queen; his son, Jack, of Lewisville; his daughter, Sheila Nunn and husband, Larry, of Sharon, S.C.; four grandchildren; Cindy Queen of Winston-Salem, Sharon Vannoy of Clemmons, Amy Queen of Lewisville and Gregg Gaulden of York, S.C.; four great-grandchildren; Rachel and Luke Vannoy of Clemmons and Alyssa and Tyler Gaulden of York, S.C.; and his sister Frances Morton of Pfafftown.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Shuba, Ancel, Richard and Bill; two sisters, Belva Kyle and Alma Eller; his daughter-in-law, Susan Queen; and his granddaughter; Susan Lynn Queen.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel in Winston-Salem. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Larry Nunn, the Rev. Roger Jennings and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.

Memorials may be made to Gideon's International or the charity of one's choice.

Note from bbd10069yahoo.com:
- This was my uncle his real name was Travis Alfonzo which he hated. The name "Jack" was an alias from his whiskey hauling past, when almost the whole family was involved in bootlegging.
